As part of the ambitious Vikas Yatra campaign, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma spearheaded the inauguration and commencement of 94 pivotal projects, amounting to a staggering Rs 1,200 crore, across Golaghat and Nagaon districts in central Assam.
Among the headline initiatives are the revamp and modernisation of the Golaghat-Merapani road, a significant venture costing Rs 105 crore. Additionally, attention has been directed towards crucial roads such as the Pulibor Handique Gaon Buralikson Road and Kuwaritol-Jakhalabandha road, with investments amounting to Rs 57 crore and Rs 51 crore respectively. The establishment of a district civil hospital in Kaliabor, with a budget of Rs 100 crore, will bolster healthcare infrastructure.
In a statement, CM Himanta highlighted the rapid transformative works taking place across Assam “which did not take place for a long time” and mentioned, “Colleges, sports infrastructure, roads, medical college and hospitals and district hospitals among other infrastructure projects are coming up. Our government is putting all efforts for inclusive development across the State.”
During his visit, Dr Himanta inaugurated stadiums in Nagaon’s Batadrava and Kailabor, highlighting the administration’s focus on nurturing sporting talent by announcing plans for an indoor stadium and sports hostel in Kaliabor. Furthermore, the CM laid the stone for a degree college and a law college in Nagaon. The proposed Ayurvedic College in the district further accentuates efforts to diversify educational avenues.
CM Himanta expressed confidence that the projects unveiled would catalyze the district’s development trajectory, fostering prosperity and well-being for its residents.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to virtually lay the foundation stone for a semiconductor unit in Jagirod, Morigaon district, a landmark project valued at Rs 27,000 crore.
The CM hailed this initiative as “a game changing project” for Assam, with the potential to generate over 30,000 jobs and accelerate industrialisation.
