Haryana BJP president and Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra Nayab Singh Saini assumed the role of Haryana Chief Minister following Manohar Lal Khattar’s resignation, alongside other BJP ministers, in a Cabinet reshuffle. Additionally, BJP leaders Kanwar Pal Gujjar, Moolchand Sharma, and Independent MLA Ranjit Singh were sworn in as ministers.
In the midst of these developments, Nishan Singh, the Haryana chief of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), informed reporters that the party’s deliberations from a recent meeting would be communicated to the public during a Nav Sankalp rally scheduled to take place in Hisar on Wednesday.
Earlier, 54 years’ old Nayab Singh Saini met Governor Bandaru Dattatreya to assert his claim to form the government. A prominent figure within the Other Backward Classes or OBC community, Saini assumed the role of the party’s State leader in October last year. He is regarded to be close to Khattar.
Saini’s appointment follows deliberations within the BJP’s legislative party, attended by notable figures such as Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda and national general secretary Tarun Chugh. The decision reflects a strategic move by the BJP to rejuvenate the party’s prospects ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections.
Analysts highlight the BJP’s tendency to implement leadership changes before the State elections as a strategic move. Notable instances include Gujarat and Uttarakhand, where such manoeuvres resulted in significant electoral victories for the party.
The political update occurred in Haryana after the BJP-JJP alliance dissolved over failed seat-sharing negotiations for the Lok Sabha elections.
