The Assam Government has taken a significant step towards promoting education in minority communities and bridging gender disparity by distributing scholarships totalling over Rs 10 crore to minority girl students.
In a concerted effort to boost the education sector, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed incentives to more than 12,000 schools that achieved A+ grades in the Gunotsav evaluation. Additionally, financial assistance was provided to students across the State.
This year, the State Government allocated incentives worth Rs 30,11,75,000 to 12,047 A+ grade schools as part of Gunotsav 2023. Furthermore, scholarship grants amounting to Rs 10,79,72,625 were disbursed to 34,267 minority girls, along with education support such as fee waivers, mess dues, and mobility grants totalling Rs 118,03,93,000.
Gunotsav is a State Government initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of school education. It evaluates four core areas: Scholastic, Co-scholastic, Infrastructure, and Community Participation. Schools are graded based on their performance, with the exercise facilitating the identification of learning gaps and the implementation of remedial measures to achieve grade-specific learning outcomes.
Recognising the importance of the Gunotsav exercise, the government has incorporated its schedule into the academic calendar of schools. Gunotsav 2024, the fifth round of the initiative, has been scheduled for January and February 2024 in three phases. This ongoing commitment underscores the government’s dedication to improving educational standards and fostering equal opportunities for all students in Assam.
