Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated Bharat’s dedication to safeguarding freedom of navigation and combating piracy and terrorism in the Indian Ocean region. His statement follows the successful rescue operation conducted by the Indian Navy to secure the return of seven Bulgarian nationals who were aboard the hijacked Bulgarian ship, MV Ruen.
The rescue operation, which took place on Monday, was followed by a message of gratitude from Bulgarian President Rumen Radev. President Radev expressed his appreciation to the Indian Navy for its swift and effective action in ensuring the safe return of the Bulgarian nationals.
PM Modi reciprocated the sentiment, thanking President Radev for his message and expressing satisfaction that the seven Bulgarian nationals were safe and would soon be reunited with their families. In a social media post, PM Modi stated, “India is committed to protecting freedom of navigation and combating piracy and terrorism in the Indian Ocean region.”
The MV Ruen, with a crew comprising eight Bulgarians, nine Myanmarese, and one Angolan citizen, fell victim to pirates in the Arabian Sea in December of the previous year. The successful rescue operation marks a significant victory against maritime piracy and underscores India’s proactive stance in maintaining security in the region.
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel also expressed gratitude towards India for its assistance in securing the release of the Bulgarian sailors. She emphasized the collaborative efforts between the Indian Navy and Bulgarian authorities, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in combating maritime threats.
In an official post on X, the Bulgarian President said, “My sincere gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for the brave action of the Navy rescuing the hijacked Bulgarian ship Ruen and its crew, including 7 Bulgarian citizens.”
Gabriel confirmed that all crew members of the hijacked vessel were safe and in good health, with arrangements underway for their prompt repatriation to Bulgaria. She praised the Indian Navy’s professionalism and commitment to ensuring the safety of seafarers operating in the Indian Ocean.
The incident displayed the importance of international collaboration in combating piracy and terrorism at sea, with Bharat emerging as a key player in maritime security operations in the Indian Ocean region.
PM Modi’s reaffirmation of Bharat’s commitment further solidifies the nation’s role in safeguarding vital maritime routes and promoting global security and stability.
