In a resounding display of prowess, Manipur secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Senior Women National Hockey Championship after a dominant 11-2 victory over Uttarakhand in a Pool G encounter, marking their third consecutive win in the league stage.
The league stage of the championship concluded with Manipur’s commanding performance, while Karnataka also concluded their campaign on a high note by overpowering Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey with an impressive 13-0 triumph in another Pool G match.
Led by stellar performances, Manipur’s journey to the quarterfinals was characterised by unwavering determination and skilful game play. Sarita Dev Bramhacharimayum, Prabhleen Kaur, and Chingshubam Sanggai Ibemhal showcased exceptional form, each scoring a brace, while contributions from Vartika Rawat, Sonia Devi Kshetrimayum, Ranjita Sanasam, captain Lily Chanu Mayengbam, and Chanu Lanchenbi Khundrakpam further solidified Manipur’s dominance on the field.
Uttarakhand managed to find the net twice, courtesy of field goals from Komal Dhami and Monika Chand, but it wasn’t enough to counter Manipur’s relentless attack.
In the other match of the day, Karnataka delivered a commanding performance against Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey, with captain Kruthika SP leading the charge with an impressive four-goal haul. MG Yashika also shone with a hat-trick, while contributions from Chandana J, Adira S, Prashu Singh Parihar, Anjali H R, and Gedela Gayatri sealed Karnataka’s comprehensive victory.
As the league stage concluded, the stage is now set for the quarterfinals, with Manipur facing hosts Maharashtra in what promises to be an enthralling encounter. Defending champions Madhya Pradesh will clash with Bengal, while Jharkhand takes on Mizoram, and Haryana locks horns with Odisha in the other quarterfinal matchups.
