Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took pride in substantial progress in water infrastructure by extending tap water connectivity to households across Assam. The CM announced the State surpassed the mark of 75 per cent under the Jal Jeevan Mission with the inauguration of numerous water supply projects during the recent Vikas Yatra.
Taking to social media, CM Himanta wrote, “We are taking important strides to provide tap water connectivity to every household across Assam. We have already attained more than 75 per cent coverage under Jal Jeevan Mission and during our recently held Vikas Yatra, I dedicated numerous water supply projects across the length and breadth of the State.”
Arunachal Pradesh has emerged as a frontrunner among the Northeastern States in implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission. The achievement indicated the government’s remarkable dedication to providing functional household tap connections and enhancing the quality of life by ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water for residents.
Pema Khandu, reflecting on Arunachal Pradesh’s achievement, stated, “According to the census, we have achieved 100 per cent saturation in the implementation of the JJM scheme. We rank No. 1 among the Northeastern States and No. 10 nationwide.”
The successful realisation of this scheme has been facilitated by substantial funds sanctioned by the Centre, along with significant contributions from the State exchequer.
Meanwhile, Mizoram reported full coverage of all 728 villages under the Centre’s Jal Jeevan Mission, as revealed in a State Assembly briefing. This milestone marks a significant step towards fulfilling the mission’s objective of providing safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all rural households across Bharat.
Public Health Engineering Minister Prof Lalnilawma confirmed the comprehensive coverage, stating that while 621 villages had fully implemented the scheme, 107 villages had partially adopted it, reflecting Mizoram’s commitment to achieving universal access to clean water.
