Arunachal Pradesh BJP president Biyuram Wahge has expressed the party’s unwavering confidence in eliminating the Congress from the political scenario of the State in the upcoming elections.
Wahge, contesting from Pakke-Kessang Assembly constituency for the third term, shed light on the readiness of the ruling party to secure a resounding victory across the two Lok Sabha seats and 60 Assembly constituencies on April 19. He cited rampant corruption and mismanagement of funds during the Congress rule as reasons for diminishing faith in the party among the people.
“Our goal is to achieve a Congress-free Arunachal,” Wahge asserted, highlighting the perceived necessity of a ‘double-engine BJP Government’ for ensuring development in the State. The BJP has fielded Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and sitting MP Tapir Gao from Arunachal West and East Lok Sabha constituencies, respectively.
In contrast, Opposition Congress has nominated former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and Bosiram Siram from the West and East constituencies, respectively.
Wahge highlighted the developmental strides witnessed under the BJP-led NDA Government since 2014, contrasting it with the perceived lack of progress during the Congress reign. He cited improvements across various sectors and the launch of numerous welfare schemes as factors contributing to the populace’s trust in the BJP.
Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, Wahge projected victory in all 60 Assembly seats and both Lok Sabha constituencies by substantial margins. He affirmed the BJP’s stance to contest the polls independently without forming alliances.
Addressing concerns over election malpractices, Wahge pledged to combat the prevalent ‘money culture’ in Northeast elections, echoing Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s stance against corruption.
Simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh are slated for April 19, with vote counting scheduled for June 2 for Assembly elections and June 4 for Lok Sabha polls. The National Peoples’ Party (NPP) and the NCP have released their candidate lists, with the former extending support to BJP candidates in the Lok Sabha elections.
In the 2019 Assembly elections, BJP secured 41 seats, while JD(U), NPP, Congress, and PPA won seven, five, four, and one seat, respectively. BJP also clinched both Lok Sabha seats.
