The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took decisive action by lodging a formal complaint with the Election Commission against Congress leader Supriya Shrinate for a derogatory social media post aimed at a BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
Heading the BJP delegation were General Secretaries Vinod Tawde and Om Pathak, who met with the Election Commission to register the official complaint.
The BJP’s stance in defense of Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut, who recently entered politics, has been resolute, particularly after she faced sexist attacks from Congress leaders and their supporters on social media. Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur emphasized that the BJP would even consider legal recourse against any derogatory comments made by Congress leaders towards Kangana Ranaut.
Reacting strongly to the offensive remarks made by the Congress leader, Thakur highlighted the significance of Mandi as “Choti Kashi,” underscoring its cultural importance with over 300 temples.
In a parallel development, Rekha Sharma, the Chief of the National Commission for Women (NCW), urged Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to take disciplinary action against two party members for their derogatory language towards another woman.
Kangana Ranaut, in her response to the attacks, stressed the importance of upholding the dignity of every woman, irrespective of their profession. She particularly expressed dismay over the disrespectful reference to Mandi, renowned as “Chota Kashi” for its spiritual heritage.
Earlier, on Monday, Kangana Ranaut was subjected to a barrage of online abuse from Congress leaders and their supporters following her announcement as a Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi. Congress National Spokesperson Supriya Shrinate had posted an inflammatory message on Instagram, which she later removed, questioning Kangana’s motives for contesting and using inappropriate language.
In light of the incident, Supriya Shrinate released a clarification video, attributing the post to someone with access to her account and assuring accountability for the action.
