The Congress party courted trouble after Bharatiya Janata Party Assam ally United People’s Party Liberal or UPPL chief and Bodoland Territorial Council chief executive member Pramod Boro filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the Grand Old party.
The move came after an incident where a few social media handles on X, allegedly related to the Congress party, used Boro’s name in a viral social media photo, depicting former UPPL individual named Benjamin Basumatary sleeping on a bed stacked with notes of Rs 500.
Pramod Boro expressed his disbelief at the Congress party’s ‘irresponsible’ activities and their alleged failure to verify the authenticity of the photo before sharing it on social media platform.
He plans to file an FIR against the party and has urged the Election Commission to take action against them.
Pramod Boro said, “I am shocked at how irresponsible Congress and its leaders are. They don’t even have time to check and verify whether it is real news or not, whether it is coming from some authentic sources or not. So how are they doing their politics at the national level? I am very surprised. So I condemn their behaviour and attitude. I am going to file an FIR against them and I have already complained to the Election Commission to take action against them…”
A day earlier, after the photo of Benjamin Basumatary got viral, Pramod Boro had issued an important notice on a social media post and wrote, “A photo of Benjamin Basumatry is circulating widely on social media. We want to clarify that Basumatry is no longer associated with UPPL as he was suspended from the party on January 10, 2024, and disciplinary action was taken against him after receiving a letter from the Harisingha Block Committee, UPPL on January 5, 2024.
