The 20 Indian and one Sri Lankan crew member of the cargo ship that struck the Baltimore Bridge last week will stay on the ship till the accident inquiry is over. Synergy group spokesperson Pat said the crew is doing fine and is fit to travel.
“It is confirmed there are 21 crew members on board except one Sri Lankan. They are still on board assisting with the process and ready for when the ship gets pulled clear. The crew members are, first, helping with the probe into the root cause, and second supporting the salvage and moving the ship to a safe anchorage. Hopefully, they will then be able to return to their loved ones,” informed Pat.
One of the crew members is also reported to have sustained an injury. When asked about it, Pat said, “The Port Medical Management reviewed all related medical records about the injured crew member and after a medical evaluation at a hospital it had deemed the crew member to be fit for limited duty (limited use of the right arm) and fit for travel.”
“They are all safe and in touch with their families. Our crewing team at Synergy has communicated with all the families involved, and we have assigned a team member to provide any necessary support they may require,” he further informed.
Talking about the current mental condition of the crew, Pat said, “Of course, they have all been through a very traumatic experience and they will receive all the support that is necessary.”
