In a latest political development, Dhubri Lok Sabha Constituency Congress candidate and MLA Rakibul Hussain courted controversy over an alleged breach of the Model Code of Conduct on Wednesday.
Reportedly, Hussain held a public meeting without obtaining prior permission, sparking concerns regarding electoral protocol adherence.
In a letter dated April 3, addressed to the Dhubri District Indian National Congress president and secretary, Bilasipara Election District’s Model Code of Conduct Cell Nodal Officer highlighted an alleged breach of protocol. As per the letter, the Congress organised a public gathering at Simultola in Dhubri on March 28.
The event, graced by Rakibul Hussain and other dignitaries, was live streamed on multiple social media platforms. However, it took place without the required authorisation from the Bilasipara’s District Election Officer.
“This is a gross violation of the Model Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission of India,” the letter unequivocally declares, underscoring the severity of the alleged transgression.
The Congress committee has received formal instructions to provide a written response within three days to the relevant authorities regarding the alleged violation of established guidelines outlined in the MCC.
A notice issued by the Nodal Officer states, “In reference to the aforementioned subject, it has come to our attention that you organised a public meeting on March 28 at Simultola in Dhubri. During this event, MLA Rakibul Hussain along with other dignitaries addressed the gathering and live streamed the proceedings on social media platforms without obtaining prior permission from the District Election Officer in Bilasipara.”
This is a gross violation of the MCC issued by the Election Commission of India. Therefore, you are hereby asked to submit a written reply within 3 days to the undersigned, why necessary action shall not be initiated against you for violation of MCC guidelines as mentioned above.”
