Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s nomination filing for the Lok Sabha election in Kerala’s Wayanad reveals assets worth ₹20 crore, including shared land with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and an office space in Gurugram.
The disclosed movable assets amount to around ₹9.24 crore, consisting of cash, bank deposits, bonds, shares, mutual funds, and gold bonds and jewellery. Gandhi’s immoveable assets, totaling ₹11.15 crore, include agricultural land in Delhi’s Mehrauli co-owned with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and office space in Gurugram valued at over ₹9 crore.
While the agricultural land is mentioned as inherited, the status of the office space ownership is not clarified in the affidavit.
Furthermore, the affidavit stated the legal issues Gandhi faces, including a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act or POCSO related to allegedly disclosing the identity of family members of a rape victim in a social media post.
Gandhi said as per directions of Delhi High Court, the FIR is in a sealed cover. “I am, therefore, not aware of the details of the FIR. I am not aware of whether I am arraigned as an accused in the FIR. I am, however, disclosing its existence out of abundant caution,” he stated.
The other cases against Gandhi include those filed on complaints of defamation by BJP leaders. He has mentioned in his affidavit the criminal conspiracy case linked to Associated Journals Limited.
Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 general election. This time, he is in fray against CPI leader Annie Raja and State BJP chief K Surendran in the high-profile contest scheduled for April 26.
