Amidst the campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has launched a scathing attack on Congress, alleging their exploitation of the Christian Forum as a political tool against the Bharatiya Janata Party-BJP in Arunachal Pradesh.
In a pointed message directed at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi via his social media handle, Rijiju questioned, “Dear Rahul Gandhi. Why have you allowed such things in election? Your Congress Party is blatantly misusing a pure Christian Forum in Arunachal Pradesh so brazenly against BJP. PM Narendra Modi has done so much for the Northeast and you are using Christians against him?”
As the parliamentary elections approaches, the Arunachal Christian Forum or ACF has thrown its support behind Congress candidates for the upcoming polls. A circular issued by the ACF on March 26, formally endorses Bosiram Siram for the East Arunachal parliamentary constituency and Nabam Tuki for the West Arunachal parliamentary constituency, urging member organisations and denominational groups affiliated with ACF to rally behind the endorsed candidates.
However, the ACF’s endorsement has ignited controversy, drawing criticism from Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who condemned the Congress party’s alleged exploitation of religious sentiments for electoral gains. Khandu cautioned against the politicisation of religion and urged for a fair and secular electoral process.
