Moirangthem T Nongshaba, an Independent candidate for Inner Manipur, has been summoned by the Imphal West Police following his controversial remarks about Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh during a live TV broadcast on April 2.
In his televised appearance, Nongshaba remarked, “As long as Biren remains in power, Manipur will continue to suffer. Rather than waiting for him to die, I might as well kill him.”
A police notice, dated April 4, asked Nongshaba to appear at the Imphal Police Station by 11 am. Failure to comply may result in his arrest under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
Meanwhile, special observers designated by the Election Commission of India (ECI) convened meetings with officials to assess the readiness and security measures for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Manipur.
Dhabalkumar K Patel served as the general observer, Vaibhav Krishna as the police observer, and Pradhuman Badari Prasad Meena as the expenditure observer.
Th Kirankumar, the returning officer for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, confirmed that these observers engaged with officials to evaluate election preparedness and address any pertinent issues in Manipur.
The visiting observers are closely scrutinising the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency, scheduled for polling on April 19 across 32 Assembly segments.
Furthermore, for the Outer Manipur parliamentary seat, designated for scheduled tribes and scheduled for voting on April 19 and April 26, general observer Ujjwal Kumar and police observer Vaibhav Krishna conducted inspections in Kangpokpi district on Wednesday.
