Meghalaya has established over 140 polling stations along its border with Bangladesh and 187 stations along its border with Assam, as confirmed by Meghalaya’s Chief Electoral Officer Dr BRD Tiwari.
Dr Tiwari highlighted that all border-related issues between Assam and Meghalaya have been resolved in a meeting attended by the chief secretaries of both States. “We are meticulously arranging all necessary facilities to ensure the elections are conducted freely, fairly, and seamlessly,” he asserted.
The CEO elaborated that border concerns between Assam and Meghalaya were extensively discussed in a meeting convened by the Election Commission of India (ECI), attended by all chief secretaries and DGPs.
Regarding Meghalaya’s specific preparations, Dr Tiwari clarified, “We don’t have any specific issues as we have already resolved concerns in the meeting between the chief secretaries of both States. We have thoroughly addressed all relevant agencies, officials, logistics, and issues.”
He assured that Meghalaya is fully prepared for the elections and equipped to tackle any challenges in accordance with ECI regulations.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha election scheduled for April 19, Meghalaya is set to deploy as many as 40 paramilitary force companies. CEO BRD Tiwari received approval for the deployment of 40 companies of Central Armed Police Forces or CAPFs.
Tiwari revealed that five CAPF companies are already stationed in Meghalaya, with the remainder to be deployed as per the existing plan. He affirmed that all necessary measures, including border security, have been taken to ensure law and order in Meghalaya before the elections, with coordination ongoing with neighbouring states as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India.
However, the CEO refrained from providing exact numbers for vulnerable and critical polling stations, citing the evolving nature of the situation.
