Sontoshi Bewa, Bharat’s oldest voter at 117, has announced her intention to cast her vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, setting an inspiring example of civic duty. Residing in the Bogulamari area of Dhubri district along the Brahmaputra river, Bewa, accompanied by her family comprising three sons, two daughters, and several other relatives totaling 50 to 60, is enthusiastic about exercising their democratic right to vote.
Despite losing her vision, Bewa has not lost her appetite for life nor her determination to participate in the election. Born on April 1, 1908, in the Bhashanir char area of Dhubri district, she has endured numerous hardships, including two partitions, yet remains steadfast in her commitment to civic engagement.
“I’m excited to cast the vote in this election. I can’t recall how many elections I have participated in, but voting is a duty for all law-abiding citizens. I implore other people to cast their votes,” remarked Bewa.
