Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has shifted the focus from electoral agendas to broader social transformations, particularly addressing sensitive issues like polygamy, child marriage, and concerns related to the ‘Miya’ community. In an interview, CM Himanta provided insights into the BJP’s stance on key election issues and its prospects in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Assam.
The Assam CM made it clear that topics such as polygamy and child marriage are not central to the ongoing electoral discourse in Assam. Instead, he called for addressing these issues as part of larger social reforms within minority communities. He emphasised the necessity of prioritising genuine development initiatives over mere vote-bank politics.
“I always say that getting votes is a different thing. We want to see real development for the minority community. Now, whether they give me votes or I ask for their votes – that is immaterial,” remarked CM Himanta, highlighting the BJP’s focus on substantive changes and progress for all communities.
Regarding the Lok Sabha elections in Assam, the CM predicted a competitive contest in 3 out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats where the BJP-led NDA is competing, while expressing confidence in a clean sweep for the saffron party in the remaining 11 seats across the State.
