In compliance with Clause 9.3 of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed on December 29, 2023, between the Centre, the Assam Government and the United Liberation Front of Assam or ULFA, the Assam Governor has established a committee tasked with evaluating the rehabilitation needs of surrendered ULFA cadres.
Comprising various government officials and representatives from diverse departments, the Committee’s objective is to assess the requirements of surrendered ULFA cadres, considering factors such as age, education, and residential area.
The Committee, chaired by the Additional Director General of Police (SB), Assam, includes members from key departments such as Home & Political, General Administration, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Industries & Commerce, Fisheries, and Panchayat & Rural Development.
Additionally, the Mission Director of Assam Skill Development Mission serves as a member, with provision for further co-option of members by the Chairman.
Furthermore, the Committee is authorised to engage successful entrepreneurs and NGOs in its endeavours to rehabilitate surrendered ULFA cadres.
This initiative takes effect from the date of the notification issued by the Governor’s office, signaling a proactive approach towards the reintegration and empowerment of surrendered ULFA cadres.
