As the home voting process for the West parliamentary constituency commenced today morning, over 4,500 individuals have opted to cast their votes from the comfort of their homes in the Tripura Lok Sabha Election 2024.
Among those participating in this unique electoral method is 100-year-old Jyotsna Das, who expressed her joy at exercising her voting rights despite her illness preventing her from visiting polling stations.
“I am 100 years old. This is the first time I have voted from home in a Lok Sabha election. Earlier, I used to go to polling stations to cast my vote, but this time it was not possible. It is easier to cast a vote by sitting at home,” she shared with reporters.
West Parliamentary Constituency Returning Officer Dr Vishal Kumar outlined that the designated dates for home voting in this constituency are April 10 and 12. This initiative facilitates participation from individuals above 85 years of age, persons with disabilities, suspected Covid sufferers, and those already infected with Covid who have applied to vote by postal ballot using Form 12D.
Each polling sector has been assigned a dedicated sector officer to oversee the process. Additionally, a comprehensive team, including a micro observer, two polling officers, a videographer, and security personnel, has been deployed to ensure the seamless execution of door-to-door polling.
Residents like Litan Chandra Bhowmik from Agartala expressed their satisfaction with the convenience of home voting, particularly beneficial for persons with disabilities like him.
“I am a PwD (Persons with Disabilities) voter; that is why I will face problems going to cast my vote in polling stations. This is the first time I have cast my vote at home. Last year, I also went to polling stations to vote with a helper, but it was very tough for me due to heavy lines,” he shared.
Officials overseeing the home voting process aim to complete the voting procedure today, with a contingency plan in place to revisit households on April 12 if necessary.
