In a historic moment in Assam, 40 lakh plus women committed to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, earning a coveted place in the India Book of Records, according to the CEO’s Office.
Led by the Chief Electoral Officer in collaboration with the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission and the Assam State Urban Livelihoods Mission, the initiative witnessed a remarkable turnout as over 40 lakh women from Self Help Groups or SHGs pledged to exercise their voting rights on a single day.
The women, representing diverse segments of society, expressed their dedication to participating in the democratic process by pledging to vote during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
This initiative not only aimed to uphold the democratic values of the nation but also sought to enhance the quality and depth of electoral participation. The event, held at the CEO’s Office, was officially recognised by the India Book of Records adjudicator Narvijay, who verified the process and acknowledged its successful completion.
In recognition of this monumental achievement, the Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel was presented with a certificate commemorating the record-setting event.
With the voting for 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam scheduled across three phases on April 19, 26, and May 7, the State gears up to play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s political scenario. The culmination of the seven-phase election process will take place with the counting of votes on June 4.
