Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead campaign in Assam’s Nalbari district for BJP ally AGP on April 17, said Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Reports indicate PM Modi will address a massive rally at Nalbari’s Govt Gurdon HS School playground, rallying support for AGP candidate Phani Bhushan Choudhury, contesting from the Barpeta constituency.
Speaking to the journalists, CM Himanta exuded confidence that BJP will win 13 out of 14 seats. However, he mentioned the party faces competition in Dhubri. To ensure victory in this seat, the CM will visit Dhubri after April 19 as he hasn’t done so.
CM Himanta further confirmed in Dibrugarh, BJP will be victorious by a margin of 4 lakh votes and in Jorhart by a margin of 3 lakh votes.
Talking about the visit of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, the Assam CM remarked, “I will be happy if they come because our votes will increase. I have told if they require any help I am here for help.”
Dr Himanta further raised the question, “Who would prefer Rahul Gandhi over Narendra Modi when casting their votes?”
Addressing reporters in Tengakhat, CM Himanta challenged the practicality of Gandhi’s candidacy in light of PM Modi’s extensive popularity.
“Even if we were to inquire of an LP school student about their choice for the country’s Prime Minister, the resounding response would be in favour of Narendra Modi,” he asserted.
The CM’s remark holds significance as Assam Congress has seen a steady stream of defections to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
