The nomination process for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls, covering 94 constituencies across 12 States, including Assam, commenced on Friday. Scheduled for May 7, this phase is a crucial juncture in the electoral journey.
The Election Commission, acting on behalf of the President, issued the notification to kickstart the nomination process. April 19 marks the deadline for filing nomination papers, setting the stage for intense political activity in the run-up to the polls.
Additionally, a separate notification was issued for the “adjourned” poll in the Betul constituency of Madhya Pradesh. The election in Betul was postponed following the demise of the BSP’s candidate. Such occurrences necessitate a delay to allow the party to nominate a fresh candidate.
The third phase encompasses various States and Union territories, with Assam featuring prominently, including key constituencies like Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta and Guwahati.
As the nation gears up for the seven-phase electoral process, spanning from April 19 to June 1, the significance of each phase cannot be understated. Votes cast will be meticulously counted on June 4, determining the composition of the 18th Lok Sabha.
