This two centuries-old lamp post had been a weathered relic just few months back amidst the picturesque landscape of Guptakashi Bishwanath Ghat. However, the lamp post has come to life after its restoration and renovation and now stands as a poignant symbol of heritage.
As the lamp post had been in a state of disrepair due to the relentless forces of time and river currents, a local organisation recognised the urgent need for its restoration. It initiated the restoration work under the guidance of Dr Kishore Hazarika. With attention to detail, the structure underwent a comprehensive transformation, now adorned with a majestic 17-foot dome and featuring a meticulously crafted Shiva idol imported from West Bengal, following sacred Manglik principles.
The restoration project, costing worth Rs 8 lakh, received financial support from BJP’s Biswanath constituency MLA Promod Borthakur, who pledged Rs 3 lakh from the MLA fund.
