Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s skipper Faf du Plessis expressed concerns about his team’s bowling prowess following their fifth loss in six matches against Mumbai Indians. Du Plessis emphasised the need for the batting lineup to compensate for the perceived shortcomings in the bowling department going forward in the IPL campaign.
“From a batting perspective, we have to aim for scores around 200. Our bowling lacks the penetration to put pressure on the opposition early in the game,” remarked du Plessis after the seven-wicket defeat to MI.
Reflecting on the challenging conditions, du Plessis noted the impact of dew in the second innings and felt that RCB fell short of a competitive total. Despite the team’s efforts, MI capitalised on the dew factor, making it difficult for RCB’s bowlers to contain the opposition batsmen.
Du Plessis also praised Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional performance, acknowledging his ability to turn the game in MI’s favor. He credited Bumrah’s variety and skill set, likening him to legendary bowlers like Lasith Malinga.
In response, MI captain Hardik Pandya expressed gratitude for having Bumrah on his side, highlighting his consistency and match-winning contributions. Pandya also commended Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive batting display, which facilitated MI’s pursuit of the target.
With an eye on improving their net run rate, MI aimed to chase down the target swiftly, showcasing their aggressive intent in pursuit of victory.
