Renowned boxer MC Mary Kom has announced her decision to step down as India’s chef-de-mission for the upcoming Olympics 2024 in Paris, citing unavoidable circumstances.
Sources reveal that the six-time world champion cited personal reasons for her resignation from the esteemed position.
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha confirmed that Mary Kom had formally requested to be relieved from her duties.
In her letter to PT Usha, Mary Kom expressed her regret, stating, “While it is an honor to serve my country in every capacity, I find myself unable to fulfill this prestigious responsibility due to personal reasons.”
She continued, “It is with a heavy heart that I must retract from this commitment, a rarity for me, but circumstances leave me with no alternative. Nevertheless, I will continue to support my country and the athletes participating in the Olympic Games with unwavering enthusiasm.”
PT Usha acknowledged receiving Mary Kom’s letter and mentioned that discussions would be held to appoint a suitable replacement in due course.
