The Board of Control for Cricket in India or BCCI unveiled the Indian women’s cricket team squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Bangladesh.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the seasoned right-hand batter, will lead the squad, with opener Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy. The wicketkeeping duties will be shared between Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia.
This series marks India’s second tour of Bangladesh in as many years. Last year, the ‘Women in Blue’ engaged in a closely contested three-match T20 series against Bangladesh, emerging victorious with a 2-1 series win.
With the T20 World Cup looming on the horizon in September-October, this series holds significant importance for India as they commence their preparations for the global tournament, which is set to take place in Bangladesh.
Currently ranked third in the women’s T20I rankings, India aims to fine-tune their strategies and bolster their squad ahead of the prestigious event. In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup in 2023, India reached the semi-finals but faced defeat against Australia.
Having secured their spot in the upcoming T20 World Cup by finishing among the top six teams in the last edition, India will be eager to make a strong statement in Bangladesh.
The Indian women’s team is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on April 23, with the series opener slated for April 28. Subsequent matches will be played on April 30, May 2, May 6, and May 24 respectively.
