In the midst of escalating preparations for the Lok Sabha Elections, Sangam Wangsu, a Gram Panchayat Chairman or GPC and BJP member, was forcefully taken from his residence by an armed militant group at approximately 1 am on April 17.
Authorities revealed that Wangsu, aged 50, was abducted at gunpoint, sparking concerns over his safety. The motive behind the abduction remains uncertain as police initiate investigations into the incident.
The abduction follows recent threats allegedly issued by the banned militant outfit NSCN-KYA, urging voters to support a specific candidate in the upcoming Assembly elections. Reports emerging from the insurgency-affected district of Longding, Arunachal Pradesh, indicate instances of voter coercion by armed militants associated with NSCN-KYA.
In villages within the Longding Pumao assembly constituency, leaflets bearing threats have been distributed, while armed militants have been spotted intimidating residents and pressurising them to support Thangwang Wangham, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate.
