In the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections today, voting commenced at 7 am across 102 constituencies in 21 States and Union territories nationwide. Northeastern States have notably showcased robust voter engagement, leading the chart in turnout statistics.
Tripura leads the turnout charts with an impressive 53.04 per cent, followed closely by Meghalaya at 48.91 per cent and Manipur at 46.92 per cent as of 1 pm. Assam reports a commendable 45.12 per cent turnout by the same hour.
West Bengal also boasts significant voter participation, recording a turnout of 50.96 per cent as of 1 pm, ranking second among all States and Union territories.
The substantial voter presence shows a strong sense of civic responsibility among the electorate, affirming their active participation in the democratic process.
However, Union territory of Lakshadweep recorded the lowest turnout at 29.91 per cent, highlighting the need for targeted voter awareness campaigns in certain regions.
Notably, the voters in the Northeastern States of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura have demonstrated an eagerness to exercise their franchise, thereby accentuating the region’s democratic setup.
It is worth mentioning that these high figures are reminiscent of the impressive voter participation witnessed during the previous General Elections held back in 2019.
The Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and his dedicated team of officials, maintains a vigilant watch over poll proceedings, ensuring adherence to electoral protocols.
