Female voters in Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar received an unexpected yet empowering gift from the election authorities – sanitary napkins in exchange for casting their votes on Friday.
In a bid to encourage greater female participation in the electoral process and promote awareness about menstrual hygiene, the Election Commission launched an initiative termed “sakhi booths” at two polling stations – the DFO social forestry building and KV Building at NERIST. These booths were exclusively staffed by women, both as voters and polling officials.
