Karnataka Women Commission Chairman Naglakshmi Choudhary, while talking about the development in the Hubbali murder case, assured of quick justice to Neha Hiremath. The 24 years old young woman, the daughter of Congress leader Niranjan Hiremath, was stabbed to death by her former classmate Fayaz on the campus of BVB College on Thursday.
Speaking to media, Naglakshmi Choudhary said, “The police are investigating the case. All the evidence has been collected properly. Now the blood is sent for DNA investigation. Once it comes, within three months Neha will get justice.”
Expressing solidarity with the victim’s family, Choudhary emphasised the collective determination – from government to law enforcement – to ensure the perpetrator faces severe consequences. “Neha’s parents are in a very bad state. Their only request is that the accused should get punishment as early as possible. They want him to get the death sentence,” she stated.
Additionally, Choudhary urged the public to refrain from exploiting the victim’s name for personal gains or political agendas, highlighting the moral and legal ramifications of such actions. “Accusing a woman is not right and it is a punishable offence,” she cautioned.
Neha Hiremath’s murder triggered a political row after it was termed a case of ‘love jihad’ and local residents led to protests across the State demanding capital punishment for the accused.
Earlier, Congress Corporator and victim’s father Niranjan Hiremath claimed, “After my daughter was returning from college, an unknown person came and stabbed her 7 times and she died on the spot. The accused has already been arrested. The motive of the murder is that the victim rejected the love proposal by the accused.”
Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar informed an FIR was registered and the accused was apprehended within an hour and sent to judicial custody following the incident.
Neha was a first-year MCA student and Fayaz was her former classmate.
