Muslim body – Jamaat Ulema Hind – has extended its support to Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Suresh Borah in the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat. The members, who gathered at the Nagaon Press Club, asserted under the BJP’s governance Muslims in the region are safe. Charging the Congress of perpetuating communal politics, the organisation voiced its view in favour of Borah for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Nagaon.
Jamaat Ulema Hind president Maulana Ataur Rahman Kashmiri commended the developmental works done by the BJP regime. He stressed on the need for Muslim voters to rally behind Borah, asserting that voting for any other candidate, mainly All India United Democratic Front’s Badruddin Ajmal, could probably dilute the community’s votes.
Kashmiri shed light on the historical background, pointing to communal clashes that took place during the Congress administration in Assam. In contrast, he noted the developmental initiatives undertaken by the BJP, citing infrastructure projects such as embankment construction from Lahrighat to Shilghat as evidence of progress.
