The United Kuki National Army or UKNA, a heavily armed militant group, launched an attack to destroy the vital road infrastructure by bombing a bridge on National Highway 2 near Saparmeina in Kangpokpi district around 12.25 am on April 23. This act aimed to sever the vital supply route, endangering the flow of food, medicine, and essential commodities to the citizens of Manipur.
Preliminary reports mentioned no casualties have been reported in the powerful explosion though the highway faced multiple damages with three large craters forming, causing trouble for commuters to commute. Amid the incident, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of heavy transportations on the highway.
Reacting to the untoward event, the tribal body has condemned the attack and have called for an emergency meeting early this morning, post which any further action on the incident will be initiated.
