Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched scathing attacks on the Congress after senior leader Sam Pitroda reportedly advocated an inheritance tax law in Bharat for wealth redistribution. However, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge clarified that the party has no such intentions.
PM Modi alleged during a public meeting in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja that the Congress plans to impose higher taxes and prevent people from passing on their wealth to their children. He stated, “The advisor (Sam Pitroda) of the ‘prince’ and the ‘royal family’ had said some time ago that more taxes should be imposed on the middle class. The Congress says that it will impose an inheritance tax, and it will also impose tax on the inheritance received from parents.”
Amit Shah echoed similar sentiments, stating, “After Sam Pitroda’s remark, the Congress is completely exposed… Sam Pitroda’s statement has made Congress’s motive clear before the country. They want to survey the private property of the people of the country, put it in government property and distribute it as per decision during UPA’s regime.”
In response, Kharge rejected the allegations, stating, “We don’t have any intention. Why are you putting his ideas in our mouths? Just for votes, he is playing all these games.”
Meanwhile, Sam Pitroda claimed his remarks were twisted and stating, “I mentioned US inheritance tax in the US only as an example… This has nothing to do with the policy of any party including Congress.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has alleged that the Congress party intends to redistribute wealth based on the promises mentioned in its manifesto.
