Manipur’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh shared a video showcasing the State Government’s robust efforts in combating Manipur’s severe drug crisis.
CM Biren wrote on X, “Why the BJP Government started war on drugs? We have recovered heroin, drugs, opium, tablets, worth over Rs 60,000 crore and destroyed over 20,000 hectares of poppy plantations. Additionally, arrested 3,066 persons, registered 2,461cases and convicted 225 persons under NDPS, only to save our Indian youths. We will continue.”
Accompanying the CM’s message was a 2:19-minute clip titled – Turning the Tides: Manipur’s Resolute War on Drugs. The video shed light on how drug trafficking and illicit poppy cultivation had plagued the State, showcasing aerial footage captured from a helicopter of hillsides where poppy cultivation occurred.
The claims are supported by a satellite imagery-based report by MARSAC that shows opium poppy cultivation area fell 60 per cent in the period between 2021 and 2024.
