As Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has been going place to place campaigning for Lok Sabha election, he found himself enveloped in warm embraces and affectionate kisses from women across the State.
The women, drawn to the charismatic presence of Himanta Biswa Sarma, can be seen in large number during the campaign rally everywhere and express their support with genuine displays of affection.
This outpouring of love from women could be attributed in part to the multitude of initiatives launched by the BJP-led State Government to empower female entrepreneurs in rural areas.
One such initiative, Orunodoi, stands out as a beacon of empowerment. This direct bank transfer scheme specifically targets women, recognising them as the primary caretakers of households. Eligible recipients, with a composite household income of less than Rs 2 lakh per annum, receive financial assistance. The government is even considering extending this scheme to all ration card holders in the State.
Additionally, the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita scheme supports women’s self-help groups in rural areas, providing financial aid and access to loans to kickstart entrepreneurial endeavours.
The Lakhpati Baideo Scheme further amplifies opportunities for women, aiming to empower 40 lakh rural women in Assam to become micro business owners. Through cash assistance and support for independent entrepreneurship, this initiative aims to foster economic independence among women.
While physical displays of support during political campaigns are not uncommon, the heartfelt embraces and kisses bestowed upon Himanta Biswa Sarma could signify a deep-seated connection and support base he has cultivated through his efforts to empower and uplift women in Assam.
