In a significant operation, a collaborative effort between the 39th Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police resulted in the seizure of 30 soap cases containing brown sugar valued at ₹3.5 crore.
The illicit narcotics were ingeniously concealed inside pumpkins and being transported via a truck intercepted by authorities.
The operation led to the detention of two suspects, Abdul Mannan Mazumder and Khalil Ulla Barbhuiya, in Manipur’s Jiribam region.
Acting on intelligence reports, security forces halted the truck’s journey from Tipaimukh in Manipur’s Pherzawl district to Assam’s Cachar.
Upon thorough inspection, officials discovered 363.45 grams of brown sugar concealed within the pumpkins.
The apprehended individuals, along with the seized contraband, have been handed over to the Jiribam Police station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Congratulating the security forces for their outstanding work in combating drug trafficking trade, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh posted, “Great job by the 39th AR team and Jiribam PS (police station) for their vigilant actions in intercepting the brown sugar from a pickup truck heading towards Cachar from Tipaimukh, Pherzawl district.”
