Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has achieved a remarkable feat, covering a staggering distance of 7,850 kilometres through surface travel in just 40 days across the State. His journey was dedicated to campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections in two parliamentary constituencies and an Assembly bypoll seat, along with conducting rallies in West Bengal in support of BJP candidates during the initial phases of elections.
According to the CM’s secretariat, Dr Manik embarked on his election campaign in Tripura on March 16, immediately after the Election Commission of India-ECI announced the election schedule. His campaign efforts included 30 public rallies, 18 roadshows, and seven foot march leading up to the elections for two Lok Sabha seats and the Assembly bypoll for the Ramnagar seat, concluding on April 24.
In a departure from the practices of his predecessors, Biplab Kumar Deb and Manik Sarkar, who often relied on helicopter travel even for short distances around Agartala, CM Manik opted for passenger trains for travel to Unakoti and North Tripura districts, and cars for South Tripura, Gomati, Sepahijala, and West Tripura. Demonstrating his hands-on approach, Manik Saha even walked a considerable distance of 28 kilometres during the campaign to directly engage with voters in rural areas.
