After Chennai Super Kings’ commanding 78-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing Indian Premier League, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad reserved special praise for all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, terming his bowling performance as a “match-turning spell” amidst wet conditions at Chepauk on Sunday.
Tushar Deshpande’s impactful bowling display, where he claimed four crucial wickets for 27 runs in his three-over spell, set the tone for CSK’s dominance, particularly with two wickets falling in his very first over.
Gaikwad acknowledged Deshpande’s efforts, remarking, “He’s bowling really well. His hard work is paying off. Special mention to Jaddu as well. In these wet conditions to go for 22 runs, that was the match-turning spell,” during the post-match presentation.
Jadeja, known for his all-round capabilities, proved instrumental with the ball, conceding just 22 runs in his four overs and dismissing Nitish Reddy.
Reflecting on the match, Gaikwad expressed satisfaction with CSK’s performance despite narrowly missing out on his personal milestone. “Feeling pretty good… I was disappointed that I missed 4 to 5 hits at the backend. But thankfully it was enough… Today we were outstanding in the field. Stuck to the plans and knew what the conditions were,” he stated.
Recapping the game, CSK posted a formidable total of 212/3, courtesy of Gaikwad’s 98 and Daryl Mitchell’s 52, supplemented by Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 39. In response, SRH struggled to build partnerships and were ultimately bowled out for 134 runs.
