Ahead of the third phase of elections scheduled for May 7 in Kokrajhar ST Lok Sabha constituency, the NDA-backed candidate, Jayanta Basumatary, has received a significant boost with endorsements from 14 Adivasi organisations. This endorsement follows the recent backing from the All BTR Bengali Youth Student’s Federation or ABYSF.
Representatives from organisations such as the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam-AASAA, Adivasi Cobra Militant Militant of Assam-ACMA, Birsa Commando Force-BCF, Adivasi Dragon Force-ADF, and All Santhali Student’s Union-ASSU convened in Kokrajhar for a joint meeting under the Adivasi Welfare Department Council-AWDC. In this gathering, they unanimously decided to throw their support behind the NDA candidate.
In the meeting, chaired by UPPL President Pramod Boro, key figures like AWDC Chairman Ashim Hasda and Vice Chairman Subhas Tirkey, along with nine other EMs of the development council took part.
With 12 candidates vying for the Kokrajhar ST Lok Sabha seat, the political scenario appears dynamic. While the NDA-supported candidate secures backing from diverse segments, including Bengali, Adivasi, and other communities, the BPF also commands substantial support from the Bodos, Bengalis, Muslims, and other groups.
As Kokrajhar braces for a pivotal electoral battle, the contest is shaping up as a direct confrontation between the UPPL and the BPF, with the Congress maintaining its presence as a significant contender amidst the evolving dynamics within the O-Boro group.
