Shillong’s traffic corridors witnessed a stringent enforcement campaign by the Shillong Traffic Police from April 22 to 28, resulting in fines totalling Rs 6.78 lakh for 684 violations, as disclosed by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Rituraj Ravi, on April 29. The crackdown aimed to enhance road safety and curb traffic infractions.
SP Rituraj Ravi underscored the diverse range of violations uncovered during the week-long operation, spanning from driving under the influence of alcohol to unlawful vehicle modifications.
In the specified duration, a total of 684 infractions were recorded, encompassing offenses like drunk driving and illegal alterations to exhaust systems, leading to the hefty fine collection of Rs 6,78,000.
Asserting on responsible driving and compliance with traffic regulations, the Shillong Traffic Police urged citizens to exercise caution while navigating the city’s roads.
SP Rituraj Ravi reiterated, “Such special drives shall be conducted regularly in addition to regular checking in the interest of safety on the roads.” Additionally, they announced plans for continued special enforcement operations alongside routine checks to ensure road safety remains a priority.
