India’s T20 World Cup squad for the 2024 tournament in the US and West Indies has been unveiled, featuring the inclusion of Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, and Sanju Samson. The 15-man squad, led by Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya serving as vice-captain, was announced on Tuesday.
Yuzvendra Chahal, despite his absence from recent T20 international series, earned a spot in the squad based on his IPL performance. He joins three other spin options: Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. The pace battery includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, complemented by seam-bowling options in Hardik and Dube.
The squad sees the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to T20 international cricket after a hiatus post the 2022 T20 World Cup. Yashasvi Jaiswal was selected as Rohit’s opening partner, while Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan have been named as reserve players.
India is set to kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York, followed by matches against Pakistan, US, and Canada on June 9, 12, and 15, respectively.
