In a significant development, three individuals linked to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress have been apprehended in connection with the dissemination of a doctored video featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The video falsely portrayed Shah advocating for the abolishment of reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Two suspects were detained by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime department, while another individual was apprehended in Assam, as part of the ongoing investigation into the fabricated video.
Shah squarely blamed the Congress for the circulation of the counterfeit video, attributing it to the party’s “frustration and disappointment.”
The misleading video, which spread rapidly on social media platforms, was shared by many Congress members on their respective accounts, alleging that the BJP harboured intentions to revoke reservation policies.
Speaking at a press briefing in Guwahati, the Union Home Minister denounced the false claims propagated by the Congress, affirming that “the BJP unequivocally supports reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs and will continue to safeguard their rights.”
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police have initiated legal action against the Maharashtra Youth Congress’ social media handle and 16 others for disseminating the fraudulent video. This action followed a complaint lodged by Mumbai BJP functionary Pratik Karpe at the Bandra Kurla Complex cyber police station.
