In a move to deepen the longstanding ties between Bhutan and Bharat, Assam has taken a significant step by reserving three additional MBBS seats for students from Bhutan. These seats, allocated within Assam’s own state medical colleges, come in the wake of the recent royal visit of the King of Bhutan to Bharat, symbolising a further strengthening of the robust relationship shared by the two nations.
The Indian embassy in Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, announced this allocation, which was confirmed by Assam Chief Minister Dr HImanata Biswa Sarma through a press release on May 1. This decision highlights the mutual commitment of Assam and Bhutan to create cooperation and expand educational opportunities for Bhutanese students.
With this addition, the total number of MBBS seats reserved for Bhutanese students in Assam’s medical colleges now stands at five, reflecting the joint dedication of both sides to promote educational exchanges and bolster human resource development in the healthcare sector.
The Assam Chief Minister’s Office highlighted that this move exemplifies the enduring friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and Bharat, with the recent royal visit serving as a catalyst for further strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation, particularly in the areas of healthcare and education.
Reaffirming their commitment, the Assam Chief Minister’s Office asserted that this initiative not only advances the historical relationship between Bhutan and Bharat but also demonstrates Assam’s steadfast support for Bhutanese students in pursuing their academic aspirations and fulfilling healthcare needs in their country.
