Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered condolences to the grieving family of Neha Hiremath, a 21-year-old MCA student, who was tragically stabbed to death in Hubbali on April 18. Shah’s visit aimed to express solidarity with Neha’s parents, particularly her father Niranjan Hiremath, a Congress Councillor of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation.
The horrific incident allegedly perpetrated by Neha’s former classmate Fayaz Khodunaik sparked outrage and prompted swift action by the authorities. Fayaz was promptly arrested and remanded to 14-day judicial custody following his appearance before a magistrate.
While police investigations hint at a past relationship between Neha and Fayaz, her family members assert that she had rejected his advances, prompting harassment. The incident has reignited debates on women’s safety and prompted nationwide protests.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticised the Siddaramaiah Government and called for a CBI investigation into the case. In response, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah affirmed the government’s commitment to expedite the CID investigation to ensure swift justice for Neha.
Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala visited Neha’s family, offering assurances of support and emphasizing the party’s stance on seeking justice for the victim.
As the investigation unfolds and the family mourns their tragic loss, the incident highlights the pressing need for effective measures to combat gender-based violence and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
