The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, in collaboration with the Education Ministry, Central and Assam Governments, Viksit Bharat Abhiyan and Tata Electronics, organised the Semiconductor Horizons Workshop. This initiative aimed to advance innovation and research collaboration in Semiconductor Technology, encouraging a dynamic ecosystem for semiconductor advancement.
The workshop featured sessions covering a range of topics, including heterogeneous integration, CMOS technology, VLSI, compound semiconductors, and optoelectronic devices. Industry experts, academicians, and policymakers convened to share insights on the latest trends and advancements in semiconductor science and technology.
Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd Chief Executive Dr Charan Gurumurthy delivered a keynote address, underlining the importance of collaboration between government, academia, and industry in fostering semiconductor innovation. Distinguished guests included Central Education Ministry Joint Secretary Saumya Gupta, IIT Guwahati Director Prof Rajeev Ahuja, Assam Government’s Industries & Commerce, Mines & Minerals Department secretary IAS Dr Lakshmanan S, and Assam Education Ministry Higher Education Department Director Varun Bhardwaj.
IIT Guwahati R&D Dean & Prof Vimal Katiyar accentuated the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange in driving semiconductor innovation. Dr Charan Gurumurthy highlighted the critical role of semiconductors in everyday life and advocated for their localisation to boost the economy.
A deal was formalised between IIT Guwahati and IIT Ropar, in collaboration with the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India-ESSCI, focusing on Semiconductor Skill Development, Innovation, and Start-ups.
Prof Rajeev Ahuja highlighted IIT Guwahati’s commitment to advancing semiconductor technology development, while Saumya Gupta praised the institute’s role in bridging academia and industry.
Dr Lakshmanan S stressed on the importance of skill development in line with the Viksit Bharat initiative, lauding IIT Guwahati’s efforts in empowering youth with essential capabilities.
Key outcomes of the workshop included insights from industry leaders, skill development opportunities, and networking prospects. Participants will also be considered for IIT Guwahati’s semiconductor skill development program to further enhance their expertise in semiconductor technology.
