Dr Purnima Devi Barman, a prominent wildlife biologist hailing from Assam, has been awarded the prestigious Whitley Gold Award 2024, fondly known as the ‘Green Oscar,’ for her outstanding efforts in conserving the greater adjutant stork (locally referred to as Hargila) and its wetland habitat. Alongside her team at Aaranyak, Dr Barman has led transformative initiatives to safeguard these endangered species and their environment.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal extended warm congratulations to Dr Barman, acknowledging her pivotal role in environmental conservation.
