Bharat delivered a forceful response to Pakistan’s comments made by its envoy during the UN General Assembly meeting, denouncing Islamabad’s “destructive and pernicious” remarks. Bharat’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, rebuked Pakistan for its “most dubious track record” and urged the nation to align with principles of respect and diplomacy.
Addressing the assembly, Kamboj highlighted Bharat’s commitment to encouraging a culture of peace amidst challenging times. She highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue while condemning remarks that lack decorum and undermine collective efforts.
Kamboj asserted, “We thus choose to set aside the remarks from a certain delegation, which not only lack decorum but also detract from our collective efforts due to their destructive and pernicious nature.” She urged the delegation to adhere to principles of respect and diplomacy, questioning whether such expectations were too much for a country with a dubious track record.
Emphasising the opposition of terrorism to the culture of peace and the teachings of all religions, Kamboj stressed the need for active collaboration among member States to nurture genuine peace. She accentuated Bharat’s belief in viewing the world as a united family, emphasising respect and harmony.
The confrontation at the UNGA echoes previous clashes between Bharat and Pakistan on the international stage. In March, Bharat criticised Pakistan’s remarks against the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA, which aims to provide Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from neighbouring countries.
Kamboj rebuked Pakistan’s “sadly stagnant” perspective on these issues, likening it to a broken record that fails to progress with the evolving world. India’s firm stance underscores the ongoing tensions between the two nations on matters of regional and international significance.
