Rohit Sharma broke his silence on the recent shake-up in his cricketing journey, which saw him relinquish his captaincy at Mumbai Indians to Hardik Pandya before being appointed as Pandya’s deputy for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Acknowledging the twists and turns of fate, Sharma remarked, “Not everything goes your way.” His removal as captain of Mumbai Indians came as a surprise to many in the cricketing world and was a bitter pill for his legion of fans to swallow. Some of his fans even booed Pandya as he led the team out in the initial matches of this IPL season.
Reflecting on this phase, Sharma shared during a media interaction, “See, it is part of life. Not everything will go your way. It has been a great experience.” There has been speculation about Sharma’s relationship with Pandya and the handling of the leadership transition by Mumbai Indians, given Sharma’s significant contribution to the team’s five IPL title triumphs.
Sharma, known for his resilience, maintained his composure, stating that playing under Pandya is no different from playing under any other captain. He emphasised his adaptability, having played under various captains both in international and franchise cricket.
The 37-year-old batsman faced criticism for his performance in the previous IPL seasons but showcased a remarkable turnaround in the current edition of the tournament. With 314 runs in 10 innings so far, Sharma’s form has been impressive.
“Whatever is there, you go by it and then try to do what is required from you as a player. I have only tried to do that in the last one month or so,” Sharma calmly addressed any queries about his recent transition, focusing on his current role and performance in the IPL.
