Ahead of the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections, to ensure a smooth electoral process, the Kamrup Metro District Commissioner has issued an order declaring a 48-hour dry period in Guwahati, starting from 5 pm on May 5 and concluding at 5 pm on May 7.
This decision, made in accordance with governmental directives dated March 29, 2024, aims to facilitate the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May 7. The primary goal is to maintain public order and ensure an uninterrupted voting process. During this specified timeframe, the sale and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited within the Kamrup Metropolitan District.
Quoting the governmental directive, the official order explicitly states, “In pursuance of the Government Message dated March 29 and in connection with the ensuing 3rd Phase of General Elections, 2024 to the parliamentary constituencies of Guwahati which is scheduled to be held on May 7, the undersigned hereby declares ‘DRY DAY’ in Kamrup Metropolitan District from 5 pm on May 5 to 5 pm May 7 including the day of counting of votes which is fixed on June 4.”
