Arvinder Singh Lovely, the former Delhi Congress President who recently parted ways with the party, has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His decision to switch allegiances comes amid growing discontent over the Congress-AAP alliance in Delhi.
Lovely made his formal entry into the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde, and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva.
Accompanying Lovely in this significant move are former Congress MLAs Raj Kumar Chauhan, Naseeb Singh, Neeraj Basoya, and former Youth Congress President Amit Mallik, all of whom have also joined the BJP.
In his resignation letter addressed to Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge on April 28, Lovely cited his opposition to the Congress-AAP alliance as a primary reason for his departure.
“The Delhi Congress Unit was against an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of levelling false, fabricated, and malafide corruption charges against the Congress Party. Despite that, the Party made a decision to ally with the AAP in Delhi…,” Lovely wrote in his resignation letter.
He further criticized the comments made by the North-East Delhi candidate (Kanhaiya Kumar) for endorsing the work done by AAP in various sectors, terming them as “ill-thought and factually incorrect statements.”
With Delhi gearing up for Lok Sabha elections on May 25, during the sixth phase of the ongoing general elections, Lovely’s move to the BJP adds an interesting dynamic to the political landscape. The counting for all seven phases is scheduled for June 4.
